Newbie ramblings...
Not quite sure what I'm up to, but as my lovely friend CB (aka Maisy) has recommended this blogging thing I thought I'd give it a go... Off to rehearsals this evening for Mary Stuart - final working rehearsal before the runs start next week. I'm not as psyched out as I was last week - I was getting the full on terror dreams about falling and dying blah blah blah - nice to know my subconscious is so predictable |

tantrums and tiaras
oh, the joy of working with temperamental singers *sigh* Tantrums from a member of the cast this evening because some blocking got changed slightly. It works much better with the new blocking but he doesn't like the singer who came up with the change and decided to throw a hissy fit. I had to just shout over it and then take a deep breath and start over. Looking forward to when this is all over, I have to say... On an up note, am off to the affordable art fair tomorrow evening with free tickets for their gala opening. Booze and lovely paintings - what more could one ask for?! |

Drunken fish
I just made stir-fried vegetables for my lunch but I overdid it a bit with the Thai fish sauch and my mouth is now as dry as a very dry thing on a dry day in the desert. Seeing as it is the weekend (well, I finished work at 1.30 anyway) maybe I might have to finish the bottle of wine that's in the fridge. It'll only go off while I'm away over the weekend otherwise... The reason I'm away this weekend is that I'm going to the Midlands for a wedding. Not really looking forward to it - it's friends of the bf's who he doesn't even like very much - but I have got a fantabulous outfit. I've just had to go out and buy expensive tights to make it look REALLY good - nothing like those finishing touches to complete things. Thinking of weddings, did anyone else hear about this bloke on ebay who is auctioning off his wedding invitation?! |

RIP Peelie
I'm so sad to hear of the death of John Peel - a truly top man. My heart goes out to his family. He will be sorely missed... |

I love to cry at weddings...
In my exhaustion after the weekend I haven't managed to write about the wedding yet, so here goes at rectifying that situation. It's funny how things that you really look forward to can be such a disappointment while things that you're dreading can turn out to be fantastic. I had a great time at the wedding, despite being worried before I went that I would be a bit of a wallflower as I don't know the BF's childhood friends all that well. The evening was slightly marred by the BF's MFF (manipulative female friend) playing silly games, but despite her best efforts, she didn't get me down for long and we had a fantastic evening, dancing like mad things! I'd forgotten quite how much fun ceilidh dancing is! My friend P and I were discussing how actually it's a really great idea for a wedding reception, as it's so traditional and following on from a beautiful white church wedding it just seemed right, somehow. It's so much more sociable than a disco as it gets everyone up and holding hands and swinging each other round the room. And if nothing else you can laugh at the bride's inebriated second cousin on the end trying to keep up with Strip the Willow! There was one particular dance where everyone was in a big circle in the middle of the room - can't remember the name, unfortunately. Anyway, it was a very simple dance but because so many people were dancing it all got very chaotic and hysterical. I managed to tread on my own toes not once, but TWICE! I've got a beautifully-coloured bruise coming up as a result... I'm really glad that I was able to share the day with the bride and groom - I'm an old softie at heart, despite my usual protestations to the contrary, and I love to see happy people getting what they want most in the world. And yes, when I saw the bride looking gorgeous, I have to admit to wiping away a few tears! It really was a beautiful day and I wish R&K every happiness - congratulations, you two, for being brave and in love enough to make the leap. xxx |

Oh, you crazy cats!
My mother is coming to visit this weekend (and paint the stage set - bless her!) so I thought that I really ought to change the bedding for the spare bed. Being the lazy slut that I am I had managed to take the duvet cover and pillowcases off the bed, but not actually get them into the washing machine - they had been unceremoniously dumped on the kitchen floor. So I'm sitting at my computer frittering the afternoon away (as you do..) and am aware of the cat chirrupping somewhere in the direction of the kitchen. This is not an unusual occurrence - he's very talkative - so ignored it. However, when I go to the kitchen to get myself a cup of tea I notice that the duvet cover is squirming and the chirrupping appears to be coming from inside it. Daft cat had somehow wriggled right in and then got himself all knotted up and lost inside! When I managed to get him unknotted he then gave me that baleful cat look as if to say 'you never saw anything, right?!' Cats - dont'cha just love 'em? |

Not sure that this directing thing is totally for me - it's been a fun experience so far, but acting is still my first love so the sooner I can get back into that the better really... Just got to get some pesky auditions!
