What a difference a day makes...

24 hours ago I was ready to commit murder, due to the most appalling tech rehearsal in which nothing much of any consequence got done and yet everything managed to go wrong.

This morning (for it is morning now - eek, must go to bed!) I am full of the joys of spring and actually excited about the show again, having had our first dress rehearsal, which went excellently.

24 little hours...

Curtain up...Light the lights...

Oh, today has been brilliant!  Well, apart from the 2nd parking ticket in as many days, but that'll teach me to park illegally in Camden for more than 30 seconds.  The traffic wardens round here are evil!

Anyway, had an audition this afternoon, which was hysterical.  I was called upon to act out a couple of scenes, one of which involved me being grabbed in a headlock (don't ask..)  I was then called upon to struggle out of said headlock, which I did.  The first time we ran it, all went according to plan: I struggled free, said my next line and off we went.  However, the 2nd time was slightly different.  I was headlocked, started to struggle, managed to get free but then rather spoilt the effect (or heightened, depending on where you were standing...) by tripping over a chair and falling, in quite spectacular fashion, flat on my face.  However, I was wearing a short skirt and I think the 4 guys standing behind me saw rather more than they had maybe bargained for, judging by their uncontrollable laughter... !  I ripped a big hole in my tights (the lovely climate control ones from M&S as well - grr) and gashed my knee - not that I realised this until the director went a bit pale and thrust a wet cloth in my direction...

Well, I think I made an impression, anyway!  Will let you all know whether it was a good one or not tomorrow...

Then of course it was first night for the opera.  I'm so pleased with the way it went - nothing disastrous happened and the audience loved it, from what I could hear as they left the auditorium at the end.  Also, the gorgeous bf arranged for a big bunch of flowers to be delivered to the theatre, along with a soppy message - aww!  That was quite funny, actually...  When I got to the theatre the flowers were already there in a vase and I kept walking past them thinking what a lovely arrangement it was.  It wasn't until one of the cast came up to me half way through the show and said 'ooh, lovely flowers, Katja' that I realised they were for me!  Just as well my cast members are nosy and look at the names on cards, otherwise I think I might have been in trouble with the bf...

Another Op'nin, Another Show...

..well, in 2 weeks' time, anyway.  Have accepted a job company managing and understudying for a touring company that I have worked for many times in the past.  It's only a short run, but it fills in that nasty little gap before Christmas when I really need some dosh to pay for all the lovely christmas presents that I *am* going to buy when I have the time (or rather, the inspiration - it's a bit lacking at the moment....)

Mary Stuart went very well and I am pleased with the way it all turned out.  There are, inevitably, some people that I will be quite happy never to see again, but on the whole it was a reasonably pleasant experience, and certainly one for the CV, so a job well done.  Thoroughly looking forward to having some time to myself again now!

Baby love...

I had a craving for roast chicken last night, so off I popped to Sainsburys to purchase ingredients (ie a chicken).  Looked at the various chopped up legs and thighs and whatever and then thought 'what the hell' and bought an entire (if small) chicken, reasoning that I could eat leftovers cold for the next few days.

So I cooked the chicken and all the veg and the roast tatties - the whole lot.  Then I looked at this beautiful chicken and suddenly got all emotional.  I should be doing the whole earth mother thing by now.  My life should be sorted and I should be married with 6 kids and living in the country.  I shouldn't be cooking chicken to eat as leftovers.  I should be cooking for a family.

Don't get me wrong - my life is not so bad, as lives go.  I have my own flat, I have a lovely boyfriend, I'm getting acting jobs - and yet...

I sometimes feel it's all a bit empty.
