Tuesdays!

I went to the theatre last night to see Tuesdays!.  This was the show that I auditioned for a while back (see earlier blog entries) and, while I didn't get the part, they offered me a freebie ticket for the first installment which I thought it would be rude to turn down!

Anyway, The Architect and I moseyed along to see the show and I really enjoyed it.  It's very 'fringe-y' with lots of silly sex jokes and innuendoes, but it rattles along at a good pace and really keeps you on your toes, as you never know where the action is going to be happening next.  Particular mention goes to the guy playing the characters of Terry/Tom/Marc (I'm sorry, I can't remember his real name, which is very bad of me) as he creates 3 completely distinct characters with huge energy and enjoyment.  I may be biased but I didn't think much to the two girls in the show - they seemed rather flat and I felt they could have gone much further with their characterisation.  However, this is only installment one of six and so they may develop further in the coming weeks.

If you've missed episode one I don't think it necessarily matters - as I understand it, each episode has a self-contained storyline - so do go along if you get a chance.  It's definitely good for a giggle and you'll leave with a smile on your face, which is always a good thing.

I t'ought I taw a puddy tat...

As some of you may know, I have two cats (George and Martha - a prize to anyone who correctly identifies the origin of their names...)  They're very gorgeous and keep me sane, listen to my rants when no-one else will and, most importantly, love me completely unconditionally.  However, much as I love them, it has to be said that they're not really doing the job of guarding the flat terribly well.  Over the past few months, there has been a big black cat popping in and out of the catflap.  He's very beautiful but when he comes in, steals their food (which is frickin' expensive, might I add - they eat better than I do, half the time!) and then buggers off without even a hello, I get a mite pissed off.

Well tonight, he really took the biscuit.

I arrived home after work (well, all right, after coming back from work via Oxford Street, but that's by-the-by), having left the lights on this morning (oops), to see said large black cat sitting very comfortably on my sofa, thank you very much.  I stared through the window in shock...he stared back...I stared some more...he stared back some more - no remorse or thoughts of 'oh shit, she's home, I really ought to bugger off now', just quite comfortably settled on my (cream) sofa.  He didn't make a move until I started to unlock the door, at which point he disappeared too quickly for me even to give him a boot up the backside, cheeky beggar!

Now, the thing is that I'm not absolutely averse to adopting another cat (or having a cat adopt me, which is the actual way of things, generally).  I just don't really want a moody teenager who never speaks to me and only turns up at mealtimes.  Still, he appears to be becoming braver so maybe he'll actually introduce himself properly one day - we live in hope.  Until then, it's a battle of wills and if he happens to appear when I have a bucket of water handy he may well end up wet...

It's all in the genes...

It has long been an issue with me that jeans manufacturers do not make my size.  The problem is that I'm 5'11 (so long legs) but I also have *ahem* curves.  The people that make jeans seem happy to churn out long jeans for sizes 8 and 10, but not size 16, which to me seems crackers.  I'm in proportion for my height - if a size 8 girl was as tall as me she'd snap in two! I found the perfect pair of jeans a few years ago in Top Shop (of all places) and loved them so much that I had 2 pairs.  However, sadly, a year or so ago both pairs finally wore right through and I was devastated.  So the search for a replacement started...  First port of call was obviously Top Shop, however they have now decided that everyone should be wearing low-slung hipsters, which just don't do me any favours at all.  Even if I was prepared to brave the cold gap between my top and my jeans, I think I'd get arrested for indecent exposure!  I looked through all the high-street stores - no luck.  Then I looked in the Lee store, which was worse than useless.  Their sizing is completely crazy - I tried on my usual size and couldn't get them done up, so tried the next size up and they were hanging off me.  Don't understand that at all...  I eventually ended up buying a cheap pair of jeans that were just about long enough with very flat shoes, but that of course meant the end of high heels (boo, hiss!)

However, today I found my holy grail.  Take a deep breath, girls - you won't believe it.

Dorothy Perkins.

Not only do they make my size, but they make it in 4 lengths (short, medium, long and tall), and the 'tall' length is even too long for me - unheard of!  Plus, loads of different styles and all at reasonable prices.  The only slight gripe is that the denim is a little thin, but at £20 I can afford to replace them on a regular basis, so not a huge problem.

I can wear heels again.

I am a happy woman.

Video phones

This morning on the bus I had to sit next to two young men playing gangsta rap at full blast on their video phone.  Now the music is not my kind of thing to start with, but when it's played on a video phone it becomes distorted and crackly and sounds doubly awful.  I don't know what it is about people with video phones, but they all seem to listen to awful music and also seem to think that everyone else wants to listen too.  On the train a few weeks ago there were a pair of teenagers playing some terrible bland r'n'b music.  The guy sitting next to them politely pointed out that nobody else wanted to listen to it so could they please turn it off, and received a torrent of abuse for his pains.  Whatever happened to the terribly English habit of self-effacement, I wonder?

Click...crunch...ahhhhh

I went to see my chiropractor this morning, which is always a fun outing.  First of all, I get to have my back massaged for 15 mins, along with a good old gossip.  I've never known a straight man who was such a scandal-monger!  Always entertaining...  He then goes twist-click-crunch with my neck and back and I emerge feeling about 6 foot tall - marvellous.  He always makes a play of telling me off for not doing my exercises and for sleeping on my front, both of which are Bad Things, but he's never dictatorial about it, unlike some other chiros that I've met.  So today he did his usual thing of mildly scolding me and then said 'Oh, you could always sew a big button on to the front of your pyjamas so that it's uncomfortable to sleep on your front.  That or get pregnant!'

Like I said, always entertaining...

Computer boffins please help!

When I view 20six on my work computer (ahem!) it is beautifully centred on the screen and I can see the whole width of the page without having to scroll across.  However, when I view it at home it's enormous and I can only see half the width of the page.  A few days ago it was fine and now it's gone wierd - waaaaah!

Any ideas how I can sort this out?

I buffed my nails today.  They feel all smooth and lovely now.

That is all.
