Six Nations

Oh dear.  England played like poo and quite deserved their loss.  I'm only surprised there wasn't a bigger winning margin by the Welsh (there may be hope for us after all!)

Scotland were ROBBED - the French played a lazy, dull game for most of the 80 mins and the final score certainly doesn't reflect the game overall.

Ireland were rather disappointing.  I would have expected them to beat Italy soundly but they appeared to be having trouble.  Italy, on the other hand, looked surprisingly good.

At the moment, I'd still back Ireland to win overall, but I think there will be more surprises to come...

Scores:

France v Scotland - 16-9

Wales v England - 11-9

Italy v Ireland - 17-28

Murphy's Law

So I'm covering reception for an hour and the phone is deathly quiet.  Until, that is, my mother calls me on my mobile, at which point the switchboard goes crazy.  Sheesh - it's as if they just know that I'm using company time for a gossip...

Bleurgh

My Monday coping mechanism appears to have broken down.

Could somebody please wake me up if I start drooling?

Thanks.

Shrove Tuesday

Well, I did my supermarket shop and stocked up on all the essentials this evening.

Flour? Check

Milk? Check

Eggs? Check

Lemons? Check

Sugar? Check

Yes, I am officially all set for pancake day tomorrow.  And yes I know you shouldn't really buy the stuff in because it's all supposed to be about finishing things up before Lent, but if I made pancakes out of the contents of my store cupboard there'd be some wierd-ass combinations.  Jerusalem artichoke pancakes, anyone?  No, I didn't think much of that either...

So anyway, of course I had to make the batter up in advance to let it rest and all that.  I'm sure it rested for all of  - ooh - 5 minutes before I couldn't take the suspense any more and decided that I ought to test it, just to make sure that the batter was OK for breakfast tomorrow, you understand...

The first pancake was as it always is - gloopy and falling apart.

The second pancake was less gloopy but still disintegrated into pieces.

The third pancake, however, was perfection itself.  Golden brown, light and easily turnable.  I'm no good with the old showy flip through the air, so I settled for a fish slice slipped underneath the pancake and a quick turn of the wrist.  Beautiful.  The fourth and fifth pancakes also matched up to my high standards and so I therefore had 3 perfect pancakes sitting on the plate waiting to be filled.  I ummed and ahhed over the fillings - many is the time a good pancake has been ruined by an ill-advised choice of topping - but eventually decided on grated chocolate (dark Green&Black's, natch) for one, sliced banana for the second and the traditional lemon and sugar for the third.  Heaven on a plate...

I hardly dare ask this question, as I am sure it will provoke heated debate, but what the hell...  What do you all consider to be the ultimate pancake filling?  Is it the good old lemon and sugar or something a bit more unusual?  I'll tell you mine if you'll tell me yours...

Rrrraaarrr...

I couldn't be arsed to blow-dry my (naturally wavy)hair straight last night, so diffuse-dried it and hence now have a rather pleasing tousled lioness look going on, which, according to the new magazine Grazia (officially launched next week!) is so now.

Just call me goddess...

Yeuch!

I'm a little concerned by the ad at the top of my blog for 'new and used pancake for sale'.

I'm not sure I want a used one, thanks...

Suzanne Partridge

Anyone living in the Bridgwater area in Somerset who is into abstract art should go and see this lady's exhibition, which is on until 24 Feb at the Bridgwater Arts Centre.  Unfortunately I can't make it, but I bought one of her paintings last year and it is absolutely gorgeous.  Her colours and shapes are just fantastic and her paintings are well worth seeing.
