2006...

...is the year of the puzzle.  I'm having loads of fun bending my brain with such things as not pr0n and La Isla De La Muerte on t'internet.  However, I was also given various physical puzzles for Christmas, such as this Cat Puzzle.

The idea is to fit all 16 tiles together in a 4x4 formation, so that all the images that touch each other match.  It's a lot harder than it first appears and I haven't managed to crack it yet - grr!

I've also been enjoying the Lunatic, made by these people, which is a wooden puzzle made up of lots of tiny pieces which you have to lock together to form the finished shape.  It's fiddly and frustrating, but immensely rewarding when you finally crack it.

Lots of pieces to put together...

Halfway there...

Nearly finished, but the fiddliest bit is yet to come...

Finished!

Phew.  I'm off for a cup of tea and a biscuit after all that.

Lift Etiquette

I have noticed, in my week of working for a large corporate company on the 7th floor, that there is a definite way of doing things when entering the lift.  There is always a bit of a scrum at 9.30 in the morning and everyone scrambles in, racing to press their respective floor buttons first.  The lucky ones take their places at the four corners and then everyone else, in a disgruntled manner, slots in around them.  As the lift empties, floor by floor (and, incidentally, who ARE those lazy buggers that get the lift to the first floor?), people shift around to get more comfortable, and there's a definite pattern.  If there are five people in a lift, there will be a die layout - ie one in each corner and one right in the centre.  If there are four or less, they will inevitably be in the corners.  Nobody wants to face the big mirror at the back of the lift, but equally nobody wants to look at somebody from (shock!horror!) another department on a different floor.  It's a scary old world, the world of corporate facelessness.

streamofconsciousness

One minute I'm sitting stationary, doing very little except navel-gazing and getting bored in my dull-as-fuck temp job, then I speak to my agent, who tells me he's dropping me, then 3 hours later I've been reinstated, but only temporarily, mind you, and I'm walking on a knife-edge and wondering whether this really is the life that I want to be leading and whether I should just give it all up because I'm 30 this year and it seems like I haven't grown since I left drama school at 23, except that I obviously have done and my life is so much richer in many ways and so maybe I'll just carry on as I am and see what happens but I need to make a change somewhere, although I don't really know quite where to start and sometimes the only thing you can do is curl up in a heap and cry then get up the next morning with a big smile and start again like nothing ever happened and maybe if you fool everyone else then you'll fool yourself as well.

Maybe.

Groo...

Blinks. What a top night. Fabulous to see so many familiar faces and also to put more faces to names.  You're all gorgeous - but I think it's just as well for the state of my health that we don't do nights like that too often ;o)

The Poseidon Adventure

I switched over to this last night just at the point when Mrs Rosen dies.  It always gets to me, that bit of the film, but on this occasion I was a wreck.  And I cried when the whale died yesterday as well.  Maybe I was a mermaid in a former life.

(Nothing to do with being tired and emotional after blinks at all.  Oh no.)

New Year, New You?

Existentialist crises.  Not the easiest things to deal with.  But rather exciting....

May the best kitten win...

It's Friday afternoon and I'm utterly braindead, so this is perfect.
