A Thing of Beauty is a Joy Forever

My dad was up in town 2 nights ago, so we went to the Royal Academy for a preview of the Watercolours and Drawings Fair.  Apologies to fans of watercolour paintings, but I find most of them intensely dull, and spent much of my time walking around shuddering at the dreadful, ornate gilt frames.  I don't know whether it was because of the subject matter of most of the pictures (endless landscapes), but I spent far more time people-watching than looking at paintings.  The place was absolutely full of thin, botoxed, painfully elegant women and men called Peregrine.  I was terribly excited to nearly walk slap-bang into Geoffrey Palmer, as well as Zandra Rhodes (who was very hard to miss with her bright pink hair).

The paintings, for the most part, left me cold; however there was a fantastic Thorburn (which we were assured was genuine) and the most amazing ink and wash picture by a French man called Francois Houtin.  The picture in question is enormous - 96.5"x66.5", to be precise - and unbelievably intricate.  If I'd happened to have a spare 8 and a half grand (HA!) I'd have bought it on the spot - but unfortunately I had to leave it there.  I shall be heading down to the gallery, however, to see if there is anything else interesting (and more affordable) there...

After the RA, Dad and I met up with friends Patrick and James.  Patrick and Dad were at college together, many years ago, and James is his youngest son.  So, as James is merely a few months older than I am, we have known each other all our lives, more's the pity.  I say that because he really is one of the most gorgeous men I know - ladies, think Jake Gyllenhaal and you won't be far wrong.  He's the one who I had a crush on all through my teenage years (and beyond).  Nothing has ever happened between us (nor ever would), but I did enjoy sitting gazing at him through dinner - far better than the dreary paintings ;o)

Heartfelt Plea

Derby folks - please tell me there is somewhere better to go on a Saturday night than the bloody Bless(ington Carriage) and the Bluenote.  I think I might have a tantrum next weekend otherwise...

Rambling

I'm in quite a bloggy mood today, which makes a big change from recently.  It started last night when I left work and it was still semi-light.  If I looked behind me (I thought I'd finished with all that when I finished panto, but no!) I could even still see the sun, setting away in pretty orange and purple and blue colours.  If I'd had a camera I'd bore you all with pictures of sunsets, so count yourselves lucky that you're just getting a rambling description.  It was pretty, though.  And it kind of made me feel that winter might nearly be over and things might all start getting happy again, which would be good.

Then I got home to find a very cheery email from a guy I'd emailed in the afternoon about a potential job, to say 'Ooh, I see you've worked for [children's theatre company] - aren't they nice?  I'm auditioning on [date] and will be in touch closer to the time.'  So that contibuted to the happy hormones as well.

Then I got into work this morning and there was very little work to do, plus there was a big departmental meeting going on, so I was left to my own devices on official phone-answering duty, which actually meant I could check in to 20six during the DAY for the first time in ages, and I saw lots of friendly names on the update list and no spam.  It was a bit of a revelation, really, and got me thinking that maybe 20six isn't going to the dogs completely, which is good, because actually I don't really want to go anywhere else just at the moment.  I like my site here, and basically I'm very lazy, so if I can stay here it's all to the good.

And it's sunny outside.  And I only have a week left in this job and then I'm planning on taking some time out and going to visit lovely people like Mikeachim and my mum and dad and reclaiming space in my flat, which currently feels a bit alien because I'm never there.  So yes, I think it's fair to say that I'm very cheerful today and I'm loving it, and if anyone needs a favour now is probably the time to ask!

Don't let the sun go down on an argument

God, I'm angry today.  I went to bed angry, after receiving a very didactic email which I then responded to in haste, so was pissed off at myself as well as being pissed off at the person who sent the original email.  Then I woke up this morning, still angry and annoyed.  The thing that's really getting to me, though, is that this isn't going to get sorted out.  The phantom emailer has asked me not to respond further and I will respect that, but I just think it's cowardly.  I'm not generally a rowing kind of person, but this really has me spoiling for a fight and the only way I can deal with it is by venting on here, which pisses me off as well.  Graaaaaah!

*deep breath*

Somebody tell me stories about fluffy kittens and sunshine, please?

Home Alone

Sitting here with the cat purring on my lap, kissing his head and laughing at him as he tries to squirm away, listening to the music that I want to listen to without having the television/playstation on in the background to disturb me, eating cheese on toast for supper without getting a disapproving look.

Happiness is a (temporarily) empty flat.
