Hi Diddly Dee, an Actor's Life for Me
"Those who agree with us may not be right, but we admire their astuteness."
Cullen Hightower
It has long been an issue with me that jeans manufacturers do not make my size. The problem is that I'm 5'11 (so long legs) but I also have *ahem* curves. The people that make jeans seem happy to churn out long jeans for sizes 8 and 10, but not size 16, which to me seems crackers. I'm in proportion for my height - if a size 8 girl was as tall as me she'd snap in two! I found the perfect pair of jeans a few years ago in Top Shop (of all places) and loved them so much that I had 2 pairs. However, sadly, a year or so ago both pairs finally wore right through and I was devastated. So the search for a replacement started... First port of call was obviously Top Shop, however they have now decided that everyone should be wearing low-slung hipsters, which just don't do me any favours at all. Even if I was prepared to brave the cold gap between my top and my jeans, I think I'd get arrested for indecent exposure! I looked through all the high-street stores - no luck. Then I looked in the Lee store, which was worse than useless. Their sizing is completely crazy - I tried on my usual size and couldn't get them done up, so tried the next size up and they were hanging off me. Don't understand that at all... I eventually ended up buying a cheap pair of jeans that were just about long enough with very flat shoes, but that of course meant the end of high heels (boo, hiss!) However, today I found my holy grail. Take a deep breath, girls - you won't believe it. Dorothy Perkins. Not only do they make my size, but they make it in 4 lengths (short, medium, long and tall), and the 'tall' length is even too long for me - unheard of! Plus, loads of different styles and all at reasonable prices. The only slight gripe is that the denim is a little thin, but at £20 I can afford to replace them on a regular basis, so not a huge problem. I can wear heels again. I am a happy woman.
It's all in the genes...

(3.2.05 00:21) i used to go and try on a lot of dresses/underwear in dorothy perkins, but, apparently being a MAN means i shouldn't! they dont let me in no more... |
(3.2.05 10:19) Sheesh - spoil all your fun, don't they? |
(3.2.05 11:35) Yay, glad you found some in the end! |
(3.2.05 12:02) The euphoria was quite tangible, Evie! can't believe I got quite so excited over a pair of jeans... Still, these things are important, no? |

(3.2.05 14:53) I always find that size 16's are too long for me because they assume that if you are larger sized, you're also taller! My other problem is that I have to buy them in a 16 to fit around my thighs without cutting off the blood, but then are way too big in the waist. There should be somewhere where you can get normal sized jeans. Dotty P's has always served me well though, but I'm a tight arse, so I try to spend only £15 max on jeans! |
(3.2.05 15:05) Except that they don't assume tall enough! Hence my problem... |
(4.2.05 11:52) Yeah, but you are lucky cos you have the height in your favour, I just look dumpy in jeans at size 16! |
(4.2.05 12:52) But you're well on the way to shedding it all - I'm so impressed at your gym endeavours. |
(4.2.05 17:02) Dorothy Perkins is WONDERFUL for jeans!! i have the same problem but with short legs and it's a nightmare i hate it and always get stressed but in therem it's all cool |
(4.2.05 22:42) Finding jeans is always a problem. My problems were solved when i gave up on the ladies cuts & discovered Levis mens jeans last year. Fantastic. |
(4.2.05 23:40) Size 16 is not large. Marilyn Monroe was a size 16. 'Nuff said? |
(7.2.05 11:04) Ah, any favourable comparisons to Miss Monroe very welcome on this blog! You can come again, Tristan ;o) BettyB - might have a look at Levis then and see what I can find. Thanks for the tip. |
