Ooh, get me!

I was cultured this weekend, dont'cha know.  I went to a recital at The Actors' Church (lovely, lovely, lovely - when I die I want to be famous enough to warrant a plaque there!) to see various friends, as part of the group 'Extraordinaire', either performing or conducting Bach (Cantata 'Ich Habe Genug' and Easter Cantata 'Bleib bei uns'), Vivaldi ('Stabat Mater') and William Byrd ('Ne irascaris Domine/Civitas sancti tui', 'Lamentations of Jeremiah' and 'Haec Dies').  I enjoyed myself very much, even if the string sections were fiendishly difficult in places and sounded a little under-rehearsed - but that's merely pickiness.  My favourite part was the Byrd section, as I love choral music.  Bach is all very well, but I just can't get excited about him, I'm afraid.

As a result of the evening, my desire to start singing choral music again has been fired anew, so research beckons.  I'm thinking of joining the Equity Choir just for fun, and trying to find myself a decent chamber choir to challenge myself - anyone know of such a thing in the Kilburn area?

I'd quite like some choral music at my funeral, most haunting.

Thinking less morbidly and (hopefully) less far into the future, I'd like some at my wedding.

Isn't that place just the most tranquil place in town? I love to sit in the churchyard, listen to the gentle hum of voices in Covent Garden and tuck into something yummy from Carluccio's.
Heaven on earth.

I love it. I'd not actually been into the church before, but many is the afternoon I've sat in the garden and relaxed while eating my lunch.

There's an intellectual precision to Bach's music which I admire (even if the cantata 'Ich habe Genug' [I have had enough] is terrible in its desolation). However, I must say Vivaldi's 'Stabat Mater' wins out for me: life-affirming, glorious.

This won't be helpful at all, but my dad sings in the Whitehall choir.

Buffy, I think you've just confirmed my thoughts on Bach - plenty to admire but just not exciting.
Maisy, I may well have to travel further afield to find a decent chamber choir, so shall look into Whitehall - thank you.
