Oh!

Got me a job...

Company-managing Cinderella...

Going to be knackered and have no spare time for the next 6 weeks...

But I will have some money to buy Christmas presents...

And I might get to sing to some old people...

And I'll have a company car.

On balance, a good thing

Managing Cinderella? Sounds intriguing...do you get to sort out the mice and glass slipper?

(2.11.05 14:26)
In a sense, yes! I'll be managing the various casts (it's a touring company with 17 different casts touring different areas of the country), but this generally means dealing with the fact that they've lost/broken all the props and fallen out with each other. Mummy Katja, if you will...

(2.11.05 14:27)
Oh my god! That sounds so fun! Why can't i have a cool job like that?!

(2.11.05 14:27)
woooo well done!
*waves magic wand*

(2.11.05 14:29)
Coolio

(2.11.05 14:30)
Thanks Sammy and Shooz )

Amy, it can turn out to be hell on earth - last year was absolutely frantic and I think I was on stage more than most of the cast members were because they were a load of precious little tosspots who didn't know how to work hard - but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a bit more of a relaxing time this time around. For starters, I've already stated which days I can't work!

(2.11.05 14:31)
But hey, if you really fancy it, I can put in a good word for you ;o) You need to be able to sing and dance and learn about 6 different roles though - is that OK?

(2.11.05 14:36)
Oooh exciting!

(2.11.05 14:36)
Yay! Sounds a fabulous job, with the right kind of stress involved (demanding, but hugely rewarding).
And obviously you'll do brilliantly. So I'm dead chuffed for ya.

(2.11.05 14:36)
nice one katja! they're the lucky company!
xx

(2.11.05 14:40)
Thanks chaps )

(2.11.05 14:40)
If there's a spare fairy godmother then could you ask her a favour from me?

(2.11.05 14:42)
Erm...well...i could maybe sing (badly) and dance and possibly learn all the parts..you think they'd hire me with all this confidence i have?!

(2.11.05 14:44)
ah, I know someone who's gone off to be buttons in newbury - panto season, don'tcha love it?

(2.11.05 14:44)
With rewards like that, I'm sure she'd be happy to help, H.

Amy, you need to learn the art of the blag, m'dear. Say it with confidence and you can fool just about anyone. Works for me, anyway...

(2.11.05 14:45)
Em - it's behind you!

(2.11.05 14:45)
oh no it isn't!

(2.11.05 14:46)
Sounds like a stage management sort of thing to me, lots of negotiating 'get ins' and 'get outs' with the backstage crew and telling the actors they are all very much loved people.

(2.11.05 14:47)
Congratulations dearie.
If H get's the spare fairy godmother could you send me the spare cinderella?

(2.11.05 14:49)
John, that's about the size of it. Convincing the actors that they are loved is probably the most important part of the job, as that means that they won't drop out and I won't have to cover for them...

Em - this could go on for a while!

(2.11.05 14:49)
Thanks Jef - I'll see what I can do ;o)

(2.11.05 14:54)
Yes, I was a backstage during panto at the Hexagon in Reading many years ago. Very sensitive people actors, always looking for reassurance in a way you just wouldn't find in any other job.
I mean people on a building site don't down tools at 5pm and ask each other what they thought of their brick laying do they?

(2.11.05 14:54)
Touring anywhere near York, by the way?

(2.11.05 14:58)
Possibly, Mike - I'll let you know. Would be good to finally meet!

John, we are a sensitive breed, I'm afraid. Although I get terribly hard-hearted when I'm in company manager mode, when I'm being an actor I'm sure I'm just as bad ;o)

(2.11.05 15:08)
Floaty, see if you can get Les Dennis to be in it!
-he was great in "extras"....

(2.11.05 15:08)
no it couldn't!

(2.11.05 15:11)
I'm being a unreasonably harsh, I know the critical process helps to improve outcomes really.
Its just that 6 weeks of Jack and the Beanstalk (2 times a day) featuring Dave Lee-Travis and Stu Frances warped my youth:-)

(2.11.05 15:13)
Floaty - it would, it would.
Although if Les Dennis is in it, I might reconsider. However good his turn in Extras was.
Stu Francis would be a good one. I remember that fateful day he opened Hornsea Carnival, and someone shouted that they'd love to 'crush his grapes' with their foot. Tears in our eyes.

(2.11.05 15:17)
Ooh, we laughed, Mike.

Em, I'll set Buttons on you!

(2.11.05 15:22)
Does anyone else think there was an eery similarity between the out of work children’s presenter in the first series of Little Britain and Stu Francis?

(2.11.05 15:27)
I don't remember the character, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if it wasn't intentional, John...

(2.11.05 15:44)
He was called Des Kay and he worked in a DIY store, had the big rimmed glasses and a very Stu Francis haircut - but no matter.
Anyway good luck with the job.

(2.11.05 16:07)
Thanks )

(2.11.05 16:56)
Paid of nice slippers wouldn't go amiss. Well done you x

(2.11.05 17:34)
Thanks Bobbs - I'll see if the fairy godmother can magic you up a pair

(2.11.05 17:38)
Ooh! Congratulations! Sounds like a fab job!

(2.11.05 17:53)
Thanks - here's hoping, jetcat )

(2.11.05 23:32)
Now, you will remember us when you're famous, won't you? When you're swanning around the stage and I'm a penniless hack churning out reviews of other people's reviews, I hope you'll cast me a brief, understanding glance, maybe filled with compassion, before sweeping past in a swirl of artistry.

(3.11.05 07:59)
tis a great time of year to have cash flow!

Katja / Website (3.11.05 08:58)
Mike, I can tell you right now that this will not be the job to make me famous, so you've got at least 6 weeks left before I start forgetting my roots ;o)

Sub, 'tis true.

(3.11.05 10:15)
ooooooh, it sounds exciting! You should appropriate the fairy godmother's wand and keep it in your pocket, just in case.

(3.11.05 10:46)
That's a very good plan, Pan - I'll need it for when they all start going off sick...

(3.11.05 12:19)
Wahoo! Congrats!

(3.11.05 12:21)
Thank you!

(3.11.05 13:21)
COngratulations! All these people getting jobs suddenly - maybe I'm next *holds breath*

(3.11.05 13:24)
Um...unless it's going to happen in the next 3 mins I'd slightly advise against that, Arty... *looks worried*

(3.11.05 13:24)
Well done honey-pie x

(3.11.05 13:25)
Thanks )

(3.11.05 14:57)
*GASP*
OK!

(3.11.05 22:11)
Artmeliana - you held your breath for an hour and thirty-six minutes?
That's incredible!

(3.11.05 22:13)
When do you start, Floaty?
Oh, by the way, catch! *throws confectionary* That's "well done" spelt in sugar.

(4.11.05 08:37)
Great news! That does sound like a great job. Hope it leads to more and better so much so you have to turn them down and be extremely selective.

(4.11.05 09:17)
*fumbles catch spectacularly* Mike, I'm a girl - I don't do catching! But thank you anyway - I'm sure it'll be fine if I give it a quick rinse under the tap...

Enigma, that's what I'm hoping. Although they've suckered me into this job so many times already - I'm just a girl who cain't say no. Apparently. *ahem*

(4.11.05 11:22)
A rinse should be fine, it's still in its red 20six wrapper so no harm done.
Tch. Girls with catching things. Tch. And they always drop guns. Or hold them the wrong way. It's always happening in the movies, so it must be true - not that a girl has ever pulled a gun on me (I can think of one instance which wasn't far off).....

(4.11.05 12:03)
Yeah, but we're great at distracting the baddies with our feminine wiles while you chaps run in and disable the bomb/untie the captives.

(4.11.05 12:05)
Mmm, feminine wiles. Mmmm.
*slaps self*
Errr, yes. I agree. A flash of boobies, and even the most hardened (careful!) trained killer is rabbit-in-car-headlighted.
Aren't women wonderful?

(4.11.05 12:29)
We have our moments... *flutters eyelashes*

(4.11.05 14:16)
Is it too late to say congrats?
If so, congrats anyway!

(4.11.05 14:21)
Never too late! Thanks Nick )
