Hi Diddly Dee, an Actor's Life for Me
"Those who agree with us may not be right, but we admire their astuteness."
Cullen Hightower
My grandfather died yesterday morning, after a long illness. He and my granny were married for nearly 60 years - in fact, they would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary later this year. I've just spoken to my granny on the phone and in her terribly English way she brightly said that she was all right - sad, but all right. Then her voice broke just slightly as she said, 'But there will be a big hole. It's an awfully long time to spend with somebody.' Grandpa, you will be missed xxx

drunkenspaniel / Website (14.6.06 13:53) 60 years. Bloody hell. That's a long old time. My grandmother dies weeks after her 50th Wedding anniversary. I think she'd just kept going by organising the party. The, once she'd seen every member of the family at the celebration, she gave up. Turns out she'd had widespread cancer and told no-one. Amazing. My grandad hasn't been the same. He spent almost the whole of that 50 years moaning and shouting at her, and then..... once she'd gone, he realised just how much he really loved her. Its been 12 years, and he talks like she died yesterday. I hope your grandmother will recover better - Women are so much more resillient.xx |

pan / Website (14.6.06 14:12) Floaty I'm so sorry. I was very close to my grandfather and still miss him very much (he died eight years ago). It can be so hard to deal with, the best advice I can give is to be around family if you can. Thinking of you and you gran x |
|
bettyb / Website (14.6.06 15:07) So sorry to hear this news. All the best to you and yours. Take care x |
|
purple / Website (14.6.06 16:57) *hugs* Katja, I know what you're going through! Some people would think that it's easier after a long illness as you've had time to ready yourself for the worst, but no matter how well prepared you think you are, it all goes out of the window when it actually happens! Thinking of you and your Gran anyway! |
|
Katja / Website (14.6.06 17:22) Spaniel: it's amazing how people can hang on. My grandpa was determined to make it to his 89th birthday, thus making him the longest-living person in our family. That was 10 days ago. Thank you so much, everyone, for your kind wishes. It sounds silly, but it really is comforting to have your support xx
